Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a psycho-emotional therapy based on the physiological foundations of stress-related responses. As discovered in the late 1970s, emotional responses are composed of neuropeptides (amino acid chains) and their receptors, which lie on neurons and other cells of remote tissues in the body. The neuropeptides are ejected from the neuron and carry the encoded “information” to other sites within the body. These neuropeptides are in a category of neurochemicals known as Information Substances (IS). IS’s are released at times of stress-related arousal and become attached to remotely-positioned neuroreceptors.

To make this more relatable, it must be understood that the body holds on to emotions that one has experienced from the beginning of life to the present time. The subconscious mind remembers all of these experiences, including negative and traumatic ones. At any point in time, these emotions can be triggered and translate to pain on the physical level. Thus, the physiological status of the body, through the process of remembering, is emotionally replicating a similar physiological state that was found in the original conditioning event.

As we know, emotions can be a causative agent in many diseases, so this is a dangerous occurrence. The goal of neuro-emotional technique is to correct the neuro-emotional complex (NEC) – imprinted emotional information affecting physiological function.

Conditions most commonly indicated for neuro-emotional technique are headaches, body pains, phobias, general anxiety, self-sabotaging behaviors, organ dysfunctions and many more. NET’s aim is not to cure the patient; rather, the therapy can be used comprehensively with other medical therapies to remove psycho-emotional blocks that may aid in the ability of the body to repair itself naturally.

Benefits of Neuro Emotional Technique (NET)

Clinical experience has shown that Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) may be used for a number of psycho-emotional issues and that the benefits include:

  • Accesses and ‘re-programs’ the subconscious
  • Corrects neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress, therefore reducing anxiety, phobias, and worry
  • Helps promote more fulfilling relationships with family, friends, and colleagues
  • Increased ability to achieve life dreams and desires
  • Allows an individual to identify a limiting subconscious belief and understand its source

Here’s How it Works

Just as chronic patterns of negative emotion can be programmed into our bodies, they can also be programmed out. Neuro emotional technique (NET) accurately diagnoses the feelings that a patient is having and the patient then often reports congruence with that previously dissociated set of feelings. Then NET releases it from the body by tapping on a few vertebrae that are related to the particular Meridian System that is associated with the emotion. Usually, at that point, several things occur. The patient reports subjectively:

  1. A lessening of that particular feeling state that was bothering them,
  2. A feeling of relief, and
  3. Less dissociation in general and more overall integration

NET seems to work in several ways:

  • It discovers early traumas and how those traumas relate to present problems.
  • It acts as a biofeedback loop, teaching people what they are feeling.
  • It increases congruence between the Human Brain composed of the Cerebral Cortex and the PreFrontal Cortex, the Limbic system or the Mammalian Brain, the Medulla Oblongata or the Reptilian Brain, and the Endorphin System, which is an even more primitive brain located in each cell of the body.
  • This congruence thereby increases overall mental, emotional and physical health. The possibilities for the spiritual side of man are also immense.

NET is excellent at correcting neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress. Conditions most commonly indicated for neuro-emotional technique include headaches, body pains, phobias, general anxiety, self-sabotaging behaviors, organ dysfunctions and many more. NET’s aim is not to cure the patient, but rather, the therapy can be used comprehensively with other medical therapies to removes psycho-emotional blocks that may aid in the ability of the body to repair itself naturally.

“Our bodies are engineered to respond to stress effectively. Normally we experience heightened emotions and then return to our steady state of relaxation. When our response system is overwhelmed we remain tense and contracted. Patterns of unresolved stress get lodged in the body, and emotions like fear, anger and grief affect us long after the original event that caused them. Practitioners of Neuro-Emotional Technique help you locate and release these patterns of unresolved stress in the body. Returning to our true nature, we relax and become healthier. We soften and reconnect with who we are.”

Science and Safety

Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) is a safe, scientific, and simple way to access the unconscious. This technique helps identify the “hidden” causes/motivations of repetitive undesired choices which may result in disease.

After a short course of NET Treatment in a recent study, measurements of visual analog scale and pressure algometer recordings of four trigger point locations in a cohort of chronic neck pain sufferers were significantly improved when compared to a control group that received a sham protocol of NET.

The findings of a recent pilot study suggest that NET is a promising intervention for spider phobia in adults. A larger, full-scale study is required to confirm these results.

Another key dynamic of the NET process is a principle that is thousands of years old, known as the Five Element Law. This acupuncture theory has been clinically validated in associating specific emotional responses with specific meridians. Classic examples include “over sympathetic” is linked to the stomach meridian, “grief” is linked to the lung meridian, and “anger” is linked to the liver meridian.

NYCIM + Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET)

At the New York Center of Innovative Medicine, neuro-emotional technique is one of many different treatments considered for each patient. However, the use of this therapy is only performed on patients after an in-depth initial evaluation reveals it would be necessary for your personalized program of treatment. Because each person is unique, and their health needs are different, there is no set protocol for using NET nor is the patient able to request the use of this therapy if the medical team finds it would not be as helpful as another treatment or specific combination of therapies. The ultimate goal is the complete restoration of health in the most efficient and safe manner, and with so many therapeutic options, it is impossible to know if neuro-emotional technique is right for you without an initial evaluation at our clinic.
